‘Simple Man’ is reflective, soulful and addictive; Samson Ashe has truly outdone himself. At first, his vocal feels isolate, with only distant beats and a quiet, luscious synth for company, but after thirty seconds, the track explodes into a modern texture. A fizzy synth and subtle glitching beats combine with funky guitar chords to form something that reflects his incredible range of influences. He explains: “I was at war with myself asking who I was after a relationship. I felt like I had lost myself and I had to drown out the villain that often lives between my mind and listen to the dormant hero that pumps in my chest.
